Louvers are sometimes overlooked as Architectural or design-oriented devices. Most designers are satisfied so long as the louvers are straight, aligned, and supporting structures are well concealed.

VS-A.GROUP® has a different and more ambitious insight on this topic. We have overseen the design of bespoke louvers to match both the architectural and technical requirements on many outstanding projects.

Discharge Loss Coefficient is the key technical point. It is calculated by dividing a louvers' actual airflow rate vs. a theoretical airflow for the opening. It provides an indication of the louvers' airflow characteristics.

Sometimes we let our computational fluid dynamics software calculate this for us, but we've found a more intuitive and convincing way to measure it through physical testing. Timothy played a major role in designing and setting up this in-house testing device and methodology!
